Second Algonquin College Conference

Algonquin College will bring some 500 skilled immigrant professionals together with dozens of employers at the 2010 Internationally Educated Professionals (IEP) Conference.

Professionals could use the conference to connect with business leaders from five major sectors: finance and accounting; engineering; information and communications technology; healthcare and related professions, and human resources, sales and marketing.

Forum: Refusing to Settle for Less

One of the key purposes of the forum is to present public policy recommendations arising from a participatory action research project on access to fair and meaningful employment for newcomers.

To facilitate this dialogue and action planning, we are planning four round table discussions around the themes of access to employment and political voice for newcomers:

  • Employment Equity Legislation: a proposal to ensure equitable representation of diverse groups in the workplace.
  • Paid Internships: an employer incentive strategy.
  • Upcoming Municipal and Provincial Elections: opportunities and challenges for newcomer civic participation.
  • Community organizing experiences: learning from grassroots newcomer initiatives

Adult Day Centre

India Rainbow Community Services of Peel provides day programs for adults living with Alzheimer's and other long term illnesses or disabilities.

Adult Day Centre for Long Term Care is the name of the program, which consists of light exercises, arts and crafts, mental stimulation, music therapy, educational workshops and socialization.

It is also provided in a language and cultural specific manner. A hot nutritional lunch is also provided.
